INTRODUCTION:

“Shri Mallikarjun Jana-Seva Society” is a Nonprofit, secular and non sectarian registered voluntary organization working in Belagavi District since from inception in a view to develop the down trodden especially dalits, scheduled, caste, scheduled tribes and the backward communities. Older Persons Welfare, Welfare of Physically Handicapped Children’s, Women and Child Development through education, economic environment, health and cultural programmes.

A few people who are interested in social work with necessary qualification and experience in the field of development and who have been in one way or the either involved with development activities with enthusiasm, interest and commitment come together to work as a group to serve the less privileged strata of society ; irrespective of caste or creed. The main motive was integrated their higher to scatted and to participate in the process of development in more systematic and organized manner. The idea of initiating the process of development and the decision.

LEGAL STATUS :

Shri Mallikarjun Jana-Seva Society is registered under Karnataka Societies Registration Act of 1960 on 08-04-1994 No.DR/ROS/03/1994-95 at Belagavi District, Karnataka.

MANAGEMENT :

The management of Shri Mallikarjun Jana-Seva Society vested with its own Office Bearers and the Managing Committee subject to its Rules and Regulations. The managing committee consists of 7 members with various backgrounds such as social work academic administrative and Technical.

OPERATIONAL AREA OF THE ORGANIZATION :

Shri Mallikarjun Jana-Seva Society is implementing its programmes in India as a whole. Major part of operational area of the organization is recognized with serve drought due to irregular and untimely rainfall. Women & Child Development , Specially targeted Physically Handicapped Children’s , Migration, poverty and being into the hard clutches of money lenders are the critical features of people in the operational area.

OBJECTIVES OF THE ORGANIZATION:

The main objective of the society shall be initiating the activities and creating an atmosphere for all round development of human beings wit Promoting temperance, good habits among general public especially youth for healthy society and initiate activities for creating awareness against the social evils of Drug Addiction, Alcoholism, Tobacco consumption, Child marriage and Devedasi system. Organizing people of below poverty line in to society and train them to plan progammes for development and effective implementation of those programme.

To initiate activities for preservation of natural resources which are required for survival of human being’s a special focus on disadvantaged sectors, especially women & children, improvement in environment & make public happy living by consuming minimum natural resources keeping an eye on future regeneration & development. Rendering services to the disadvantaged communities irrespective of caste, creed, colour, race, religion and sex and language by:

1. Providing formal and non-formal education for children and supporting such programmes.

2. Conducting adult education and awareness generation.

3. To promote Education, Literacy, Fine arts for this to establish &

run,The Pre-primary,Primary, Secondary Schools, Colleges, Hostels,

Libraries “Day Care Homes” cretches, Tailoring Classes , Schools

For Blind &Handicapped, and other activities relating to educational development Vocational training and Handicrafts development and to provide hostel facilities.

4. To promote projects which leads to achieve the over all development of women, widows, destitute women, widows, destitute women, through setting up of training –cum-production centers, and socio- economical development programmes like Dairying, Livestock Rearing and other productions which leads to generate income and Sufficient employment’s to the poorer women particularly and people in general.

5. To promote sponsor, setup, run and execute all type of projects for the integrated development of the children in general , disable Children, in particular and to set up crèches to the poorer children to Provide needful care and protection. To promote and execute the Projects to attain welfare of the children.

6. To promote, sponsor, setup, run and execute all the programmes and Projects which lead to achieve the integrated development of the Poorer women children small and marginal farmers, landless labours, Weaker section people, who are down trodden in the jurisdiction of The society. The main and important objective of the organization And motivating them to organize themselves to involve actively to Attain their over all development themselves. Hence the objectives Are to “Build the people into strong groups, empower them to achieve their over all develop themselves.

SENIOR CITIZEN’S HOME

Shri Mallikarjun Jana-Seva Society is having a programme of running 2 Senior citizen’s home for older persons(Above 60 years) one at Belagavi and one at Yallapur. In each Home around 50 beneficiaries are benefited by these Senior citizen’s home and are availing good nutritious food educational and recreational facilities. The age from 60-80 years old persons are being admitted in this old age home, intensive care is being taken for the overall development of the old persons in these old age persons.

SENIOR CITIZEN’S HELP LINE AT KARWAR

24 hours helpline for Senior citizen’s giving immediate service to its clients who are harassed by their children, others by physical mental and sexual harassment, teasing beating etc., it’s also offering counseling , guidance police help and legal Aid to their clients counseling, guidance medical and psychiatric checkups.

MENTALLY RETARDED RESIDENTIAL SPECIAL SCHOOL At: Yallapur & Belagavi

Shri Mallikarjun Jana-Seva Society started in the Year 2007 By using Local Contribution and Organization Fund. The Institution in running successfully since its inception. The organization also arranged vocational training for these children’s. There are 70 Mentally Retarded Residential children’s are studying in the school with the support of Department & their parents and local people. There are 10 staff working full time.

DAY CARE CENTRE:

Shri Mallikarjun Jana-Seva Society is having a programme of running Day care centre for senior citizen s (Above 60 years) at Karwar ( Uttar Kannada) since last four years. In the centre around 150 to 200 beneficiaries are benefited and are availing good nutritious food educational and recreational facilities. The age from 60-80 years old persons are being admitted in this care centre for senior citizens . Intensive care is being taken for the overall development of the old persons in these old age persons.

“SHIVANADI ” & “ MUSSANJE ” SENIOR CITIZEN HOMES FOR 50 ELDERLY WOMEN

Shri Mallikarjun Jana-Seva Society is having a programme of running 2 senior citizen homes for elderly women (Above 60 years) one at Lokapur Tq:Mudhol Dist: Bhagalkot and one at Koppal since last two years. In each Home around 50 beneficiaries are benefited by these senior citizen homes for elderly women and are availing good nutritious food educational and recreational facilities. The age from 60-80 years old persons are being admitted in this senior citizen homes for women, intensive care is being taken for the overall development of the old persons in these old age persons.

YOUTH AWERNESS PROGRAMME.

Gender disparity among the backward communities is the common phenomena seen in the villages of rain shadow; hence the women exploitation is higher compare to other area. Organization has organized Gender Awareness Camp at Marihal Village to the couples belong to the backward community. 10 pairs and 0 single women have participated in this camp ; the participatory methodology was adopted in this programme. All most all the participants have decided to eradicate gender disparity in their houses & community and to give equal to the women in all aspect including decision making.

COMPUTER TRAINING PROGRAMME :

Shri Mallikarjun Jana-Seva Society organized Computer Training Programme in Marihal & Hirebagewadi village’s ofBelagavi taluka for the girls aged 16 to 18 years for six months. . We also distributed the certificates and prizes at the end of the Programme.

SELF HELP GROUPS :

By conducting a survey in theBelagavi Taluka we identified small and marginal farmers ; we made them to assemble in each village and gave the information about the programmes and facilities provided by the State and Central Governments for such people. It has motivated to save rupees 15 to 20 a week from each woman in the Society. We helped them to organize in the form of a Group or Society and helped and guided them to take the benefits from such schemes. As part of the income generation activities the Society are also doing common purchases of the grass rises and selling among them at the minimum profit, profit goes to Society’s account along with interest during the period the total savings of the Society’s SGSY’s scheme.

ENVIRONMENT PROGRAMME:

As part of the environment one – day awareness programme was conducted Tarihal & Basapur Villages of Belagavi Taluka. About 100 people were participated in each village. During the programme it was addressed regarding soil and water conservation, growing the tree along the bunds, planting trees at the open places. During the time of camp different plants were distributed. Also it was discussed about sanitation in those villages to prevent the diseases from the stagnant water and its management through constructing drains & using individual latrines soakage pits etc., It was also said experiences regarding health and hygiene.

Rain water Harvesting Programme.

Shri Mallikarjun Jana-Seva Society through our Society we have conducted various programme like Rain Water Harvesting, Watershed & Ground water recharge in various places of Bailhongal, Gokak and Khanapur talukas. By this programme we have created on importance of rain water, how to save the water, how to purporate the water into the earth by which it improves the level of ground water. How to collect the water from the building terrace to the sink pits which improves their Borewells and wells water level and How to save water for other purposes for drinking of animals, washing animals, to wash cloths and for agricultural use as to grow vegetables and etc. With the help of our advisors who B.Sc Agri and M.Sc Agri graduates as resource persons.

WOMEN AWARENESS CAMP:

As initial motivation the organization has to organize 250 women, social awareness camp in one village. Totally the programme has been for two day about 75 women participated from different streets. During the awareness camp it has been taught about family planning family welfare, legal awareness, regarding Government Economic Programmes also it has been discussed about health and hygiene for women participants. The participants have been actively involved in the programme and come forward to programme was organized under the assistance of women and child development department.

INDEPENDENCE DAY SCHOOL CHILDREN PROGRAMME

On 15th August the Independence Day a School Children Programme was conducted by our organization at Society Office. Under this programme Debate Competition, Singing Competition, Essay writing and other cultural activities were conducted. 100 children’s of different schools participated in the Sports Competition and prizes were distributed among the winners.

REPUBLIC DAY SCHOOL CHILDREN PROGRAMME

On 26 th January the Republic Day a School Children Programme was conducted by our organization at Society Office. Under this programme Debate Competition, Singing Competition, Essay writing and other cultural activities were conducted. 150 children’s of different schools participated in the Sports Competition and prizes were distributed among the winners.

Sports and Cultural Activities

Shri Mallikarjun Jana-Seva Society has conducted sports & games, Cultural activities competitions to women SHG’s, Youths and non-formal education centre children during national festivals like Independence Day, Republic day, Children day, international Women’s day. Shri Mallikarjun Jana-Seva Society is planning for more programmes in coming years for the needy & poor people in the target areas through Social, Educational, Economical, Environmental, Health and Cultural Programmes.

SOCIAL AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES:

TAILORING TRAINING PROGRAMME:

Shri Mallikarjun Jana-Seva Society organized Craft Training Programme in Marihal & Hirebagewadi village’s ofBelagavi taluka for the women. We also distributed the certificates and prizes at the end of the Programme. At the same ocation the organization conducted activities like Drawing, Rangoli, Singing, Debates, Bag making. We also distributed the prizes at the end of the Programme

AWARENESS GENERATION REGARDING CHILD LABOUR

Child labour is the very critical issue being prevailed in the rural as well urban area. The children’s of the poor families deprived of their education and other facilities in this region. The male children’s are being sent to the agriculture labour work as well as animal and sheep rearing. Some girl children forced to engage in household activities as well as agriculture labour work. Some poorest families kept their children in rich farmers for animal & sheep husbandry and other domestic work as bonded labour in order to survive or sustain their lives. By relazing critical situation organization has conducted awareness generation camps regarding Child and Bonded Labour Issues in almost all its project villages.

HIV/ AIDS AWARENESS PROGRAMME:

Aids Awareness Programme was conducted in Nilaji , Karadiguddi, Marihal, Sambra & Basarikatti Villages ofBelagavi Taluka. The meaning of Aids, characteristics and symptoms of it were explained. AIDS can and may catch a person, through unsecured sex,

Namely illicit sexual relations, people were told not to get to whores or prostitutes. They were also told to use disposable syringes, and were told to use condoms for safer sex. Many

diseases will make human body as their homes because of AIDS. AIDS kills human immunity power symptoms were clearly told that, loss of weight, dehydration, decently and existence of a disease in a person for a long time. It was also told that the precautionary measure should be taken and do not use a blade syringe used by the others, and should not practice the multi sex etc.

RURAL HEALTH CHECK-UP PROGRAMME

Shri Mallikarjun Jana-Seva Society conducted Health check up camp at kittur village of Bailhongal Taluka. General Doctor conducted preliminary health check up of all the people patients. The Gynecologist Doctor was called to check the women RH concern diseases. So many STD cases were identified. The people all over the villages were guided about pregnancy, age of manage and STDs. They should become pregnant only after 15 years and to maintain proper period between two children and they should alert about deficiency of vitamin, nutritional food. Sexual awareness was given. Both male and female children should be grown equally. At the same time, the sexual disease of women was identified and the solution was given.

Physically Handicapped Health check-Up Camp.

Physically Handicapped Health check-Up Camp was carried out at Holihosur of Bailhongal taluka. We had 8 volunteers and two doctors. Volunteers visited the houses in the village to get reore number of children to get benefit from this program. More than 150 Physically Handicapped got Treatment

PULSE POLIO PROGRAMME :

Before the intervention of organization people of these project villages were hesitating to have pulse polio to their children due to their illiteracy & ignorance, the group had recognized this issue and undertaken awareness campaign in all most all its project villages. Now the trend is changed people are coming forward to have the pulse polio to their newly born children.

DRUG ADDICTION CENTRE AT YALLAPUR & BELAGAVI

This programme was stratred in the year 20012 at Yallapur andBelagavi. It was told that drug abuse is nothing but smoking cigarettes, heroin, cocaine, brown sugar, and chewing of tobacco and gutkha.

Drinking of intoxicating drinks is also a drug abuse. It was told that in the rural area smoking and chewing tobacco and drinking alcohol is increasing. It was explained that by these bad habits deadly diseases such as lungs and throat and mouth cancer can develop. Smoking and drinking on the one hand cause financial and health trouble, chewing of tobacco & gutkha cause health and hygiene problems.

CONCLUSION :

Shri Mallikarjun Jana-Seva Society with the valuable support of Governments and Donor Agencies has achieved remarkable progress in the field of Rural Development. It was also recognized by the Government of Karnataka Shri Mallikarjun Jana-Seva Society with its well qualified, experienced, young and energetic ever smiling staff putting its strong steps towards Integrated Development of the rural poor people especially women and poor artisans who are in trouble and in need of support to sustain their livelihood. Shri Mallikarjun Jana-Seva Society is covering all most all aspects of rural peoples life for their over all development with the active participation of the people and enthusiastic staff members. Shri Mallikarjun Jana-Seva Society is extending its services major portion at rural poor people. In mean time we say still there is a long way to pass on development activities.

Shri Mallikarjun Jana-Seva Society has established its deep roots in this area while working with the poor people specially women folk and it has developed credibility by proving its honesty and transparency. This enables the Shri Mallikarjun Jana-Seva Society to raise sufficient funds for its activities locally as well as outside the district.
